Vegan Flour Tortillas

Have you ever looked at all the ingredients in store-bought flour tortillas and thought is this safe to eat? Many tortillas are full of questionable ingredients and without a smartphone and app like "Is it Vegan" or access to Wi-Fi you might not even be able to figure out if it is vegan. This is an easy recipe with good flavor and not too many ingredients. Homemade vegan flour tortillas are fun to make too!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unbleached white flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • cup Crisco (vegetable shortening)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Instructions

  • Mix the flour and salt together.
  • Stir in the oil and the water.
  • Mix until dough ball forms.
  • Divide in 4-6 even balls.
  • Flatten using a rolling pin.
  • Cook on a griddle or cast iron pan with no oil. When air bubbles form flip and cook on the other side.
  • When both sides are browned let cool for storage or serve immediately.
